Health Canada Regulatory Framework
In Canada, therapeutic products are regulated by Health Canada under the Food and Drugs Act and the Natural Health Products Regulations. The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) schedules controlled substances.
SARMs sold or marketed as therapeutic products, natural health products, or dietary supplements require Health Canada authorization — which no SARM currently has. Health Canada has issued public advisories warning about SARMs products appearing in supplement channels without approval.
Research chemicals supplied to qualified researchers for in vitro or animal research — not for human therapeutic use — operate under a different framework than therapeutic goods.
CDSA Scheduling Status
As of 2026, most research SARMs (RAD-140, LGD-4033, Ostarine, MK-677, YK-11, Cardarine, SR9009, Andarine) are not specifically scheduled under the CDSA. They are not in Schedule I (narcotics), Schedule II (cannabis), Schedule III (amphetamines etc.), Schedule IV (steroids, GHB etc.), or Schedule V/VI.
Anabolic steroids (testosterone, nandrolone, stanozolol) are Schedule IV under the CDSA. Non-steroidal SARMs are structurally distinct and are generally not captured by the Schedule IV anabolic steroid definitions.

Research Importation
Canadian researchers importing SARMs for laboratory research:
- Declare products accurately at CBSA as "research chemicals / scientific research materials"
- Institutional researchers should work through their institution's procurement/research office
- Quantities should be appropriate for research use (mg-scale vials, not commercial quantities)
- Third-party CoA and For Research Use Only labelling support accurate customs classification
